In a landmark event that underscores the growing global collaboration within the engineering profession, representatives from the Mississippi Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers & Surveyors (Board), as well as 30 other member licensing boards, participated in the signing of a historic Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) between the United Kingdom Engineering Council (EC) and the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES). The ceremony, which took place on August 13, 2024, at the NCEES 103rd annual meeting in Chicago, marks a significant step forward in the international mobility of professional engineers.

For the Mississippi Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers & Surveyors, the signing of the MRA clearly indicates the state’s commitment to maintaining high professional standards while embracing the opportunities that come with global engagement. Participation in this event by Dr. Dennis D. Truax, P.E., and Mr. William C. “Bill” Mitchell, P.E./P.S. on behalf of the Board highlights Mississippi’s proactive approach to ensuring the state’s engineers are competitive internationally and well-positioned to succeed in an increasingly interconnected world.

Mississippi representatives at the historic event included William C. "Bill" Mitchell, P.E. / P.S. and Dr. Dennis D. Truax, P.E.

The MRA is built upon the International Professional Engineers Agreement (IPEA) framework and is designed to uphold the highest discipline-specific and jurisdictional standards. This agreement ensures that engineers seeking to practice internationally meet stringent professional requirements, safeguarding the integrity of the engineering profession while expanding opportunities for collaboration across borders.
